Explosion test with a railway tank car at the BAM Test Site Technical Safety
Source: BAM
Market surveillance authorities carry out random checks to ensure that pressure equipment complies with national and international standards. In the event of non-conformity, the authorities initiate measures to prevent hazards for users and the public when handling transportable pressure equipment designs that are unsafe.
Transportable pressure equipment includes, for example, gas cylinders, pressure drums, tank containers, railway tank cars and gas containers with multiple elements including their valves and other equipment, as far as they are covered by the Transportable Pressure Equipment Ordinance (ODV).
The ERFA-MÜoD has the task of developing and updating a market surveillance concept for authorities. The market surveillance authorities inspect transportable pressure equipment on the basis of this concept.
The ERFA-MÜoD includes members and guests from all market surveillance authorities mentioned in the ODV as well as from other institutions, Federal authorities and ministries. It was established in 2012 by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) (§ 20 ODV).
